Itru has developed two new systems to determine the Fineness/Maturity of Cotton Fibres through sophisticated algorithms based on image processing

  1. -Itru -Cotton Single Fibre Fineness /Maturity Tester (make use of parallel fibres)
  2. -Itru -Cotton Surface Analyses Fineness/Maturity Tester (make use of entangled fibres)

The pictures show microscopic images cotton fibres. It can be clearly seen that

  1. -There is a variation between fibres in terms of fineness/maturity
  2. -There is variation within each fibre in terms of fineness/maturity

ITRU UAK-1SF Cotton Single Fibre Fineness/Maturity Measurement System consists of
  • -Fibre Testing Machine and Optic measurement system.
  • -Itru UAK-1SF Software ver 1.1
  • -Notebook
  • -Digital Microscope

Principles

Test Method

Each single cotton fibre image is captured from digital microscope and these image files are stored in image directory.Approximately 30 to 200 tests are required. Then the software gives the average and single values of the total samples tested.

    From X-section of cotton Fibres one can conclude the Fineness and Maturity Values . We have developed a system to convert the x-section measurement values to longitudinal measurement values and seek a correlation between two systems.

    There is a close correlation between Fineness and Calculated Micronaire in most of the cases.

    Itru Fibre Tester UAK-SF could be used for single analyses of cotton fibres for mainly research purposes.

    Advantages of longitudinal analyses over x-section analyses could be summarised as follows:

    • -More preciseness measurement of diameter of cotton fibres
    • -More information about flat fibres

    Advantages of x-Section analyses over longitudinal analyses analyses could be summarised as follows:

    • -More preciseness measurement of fineness/maturity of cotton fibres except flat fibres

    For any type of cotton sample measurement of micronaire value is not a single value. Micronaire means micrograms per inch of single fibre. However, any cotton sample when observed under microscope it could be seen clearly that there is a variation in fineness and maturity within one sample as shown in the previous pictures..
